Personal data processing in the Interpreter Directory

Authorised and trained interpreters are mainly hired for public sector assignments via call-off procedures from publicly procured framework agreements. The directory data must be available to those ordering interpretation services (authorities, regions and municipalities), interpreter users and interpreter agencies.

As of May 2019, the Interpreter Directory has been integrated with Kammarkollegiet’s call-off service for interpretation services (the Interpreter Portal).

Kammarkollegiet maintains a directory of authorised interpreters and trained interpreters in accordance with Paragraphs 12 and 16 A of the Ordinance (1985:613) on the Authorisation of Interpreters and Translators. Since 1 January 2016, the directory must be searchable and accessible to the public. This means that Kammarkollegiet’s directory no longer exists in the form of a list. It is published on the web instead.

The purpose of Kammarkollegiet’s Interpreter Directory

The purpose of Kammarkollegiet’s Interpreter Directory is partly to make visible the number of authorised and trained interpreters available per language, and partly to give interpreter users and interpreter agencies the opportunity to verify the formal competence of interpreters (e.g., for guidance when ordering, appointing and paying for the services of an interpreter).

The Interpreter Directory is a verification tool and not a recruitment or intermediation instrument.

Mandatory information in Kammarkollegiet’s Interpreter Directory

In accordance with paragraphs 12 and 16 A of the Ordinance, Kammarkollegiet publishes the following information about all authorised and trained interpreters:

  • Interpreter number
  • Competence (authorised interpreter, legal interpreter, medical interpreter or trained interpreter)
  • Language

The above information is also available to Kammarkollegiet’s Interpreter Portal, so that those ordering interpretation services can verify interpreters’ competence.

At the interpreter’s request, the following details can also be published on Kammarkollegiet’s website:

  • E-mail address
  • Telephone (mobile)
