Erasmus Mundus

The Erasmus Mundus programme has minimum requirements for what insurance must be offered to eligible candidates who have received a Community grant to study in an Erasmus Mundus Action 1, Action 2 and Action 3 project. This Erasmus Mundus insurance provides students with that coverage. The insurance is free.

Filing a claim and the Medical Insurance Card

A specific form in English is available for students to submit a claim. They also receive a red Medical Insurance Card (MIC) from their Swedish university.

Students covered by the insurance

The Erasmus Mundus insurance covers:

  • EMMC students with a scholarship
  • EMJD doctoral students with a stipend
  • All Action 2 and 3 grant recipients
  • EMMC scholarship holders with an employment contract
  • EMJD doctoral students with an employment contract

What does the insurance cover?

The following is covered by the Erasmus Mundus Insurance:

  • medical and dental care
  • death coverage
  • permanent invalidity
  • third-party liability
  • theft and loss of documents
  • visits by relatives
  • disruption cover

When and where does the insurance policy apply?

The student is covered 24 hours a day during the time they are participating in an Erasmus Mundus Programme.

The insurance covers all worldwide travel required for participation in the Erasmus Mundus Programme. 


There is no deductible for this insurance.
