1 Scope, definitions and deductible

1.1 Who does the insurance apply to?

1.1.1 Group insurance

When a university or university college has taken out this insurance as a group insurance, it covers all exchange students who have been accepted for and are undertaking higher education, third cycle education or an internship in Sweden. Exchange student means a student who is studying or practising in Sweden according to a written agreement on exchange or acceptance between the Swedish educational institution and a foreign educational institution.

In this context, “accepted” is defined as registered in LADOK or an equivalent system.

The studies or internship abroad must be credited (result in credits) in the course of education in which the insured has been accepted and is taking in the country where the insured is resident.

1.1.2 Individual insurance

A university, university college or other authority can subscribe to this insurance directly on our website for an individual student or doctoral student who will study or complete an internship in Sweden where this is not done according to a written agreement between the educational institutions according to clause 1.1.1.

The insurance order must then state:

  • the insured’s name and personal ID number or date of birth

  • the insurance period

  • the country the insured comes from

  • the authority, invoice reference and contact person at the authority.

1.2 Where and when does the insurance apply?

Group insurance covers direct travel between Sweden and the country where the insured is resident at the start and end of the studies. The insurance covers the insured in Sweden for the duration of the insured’s studies or internship. It also applies two weeks before the studies/internship start and two weeks after the studies/internship if the insured is in Sweden.

The insurance is also valid during holidays, if the insured continues to study at the university or college after the holiday.

Individual insurance covers direct travel between the country where the insured is resident and Sweden at the start and end of the studies. The insurance is valid 24 hours a day in Sweden during the agreed insurance period

1.3 Deductible

The insurance applies without any deductible apart from 2.4 Property cover, where the deductible is SEK 1,500 and 2.6 Legal costs, where the deductible is calculated according to the method specified in that clause.
